Electrical Engineer, Power Electronics

Job Responsibilities

Join Creare’s highly accomplished engineers and technicians in Hanover, NH to apply your expertise to a variety of challenging power electronics applications. We are a product-focused engineering and production organization delivering high-power DC/DC converters and solid-state circuit breakers to the military, sending space-grade motor drives to orbit, and generating power on the sea floor. Demonstrate your ability to succeed on a variety of R&D projects working in multidisciplinary teams of electrical, software, mechanical, and thermal experts.

You will:

• Develop electrical designs for AC or DC power converters, SSCBs, and motor drives.
• Support every stage of product development including proposal, requirements definition, design, analysis, build, test, integration, and customer support.
• Benefit from and contribute to mentorship and collaboration from EEs and other engineers in the group.

Professional Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in industry or practical research working with power electronics
  • Practical understanding of power converter topologies and ability to research and understand tradeoffs for a variety of applications
  • Experience in power semiconductor selection (Si / SiC / GaN MOSFETs, Diodes), design of gate drive, design of analog and digital supporting circuits
  • Experience with power converter filter design including magnetics and capacitors
  • Understanding of semiconductor power dissipation and thermal design
  • Knowledge of circuit board design and ability to provide detailed instructions for reliable and effective layouts
  • Knowledge of control theory and ability to communicate instructions and concepts to firmware developers for robust performance
  • Ability to perform and oversee qualification and production testing, including developing and executing test procedures, reporting results, and contributing to safety reviews
  • Ability to effectively communicate internally and externally by contributing to proposals, progress reports, design reviews, and presentations

Professional Requirements

Candidate must have a MSEE and 2 or more years’ experience or equivalent combination of education/experience (i.e., BSEE and 4 or more years’ experience). Preferred skills include: demonstrated electronics design proficiency in an R&D environment; experience with common CAD tools such as schematic capture and PC board layout tools; a desire to work on multiple, deadline-driven projects concurrently; effective task management and communication skills.

Engineer (BS-Level, Electronics)

Manufacturing & Production Engineer

Job Responsibilities

Creare is focused on developing new high-technology products for a variety of customers and marketplaces. We invite you to join the Creare team and apply your production management, manufacturing engineering, and quality assurance knowledge in our exciting R&D prototype environment. Specific duties include: 1) understanding all aspects of Creare fabrication workflow and management approaches; 2) helping configure, refine, and maintain our electronic production management system; 3) identifying opportunities and implementing changes to streamline processes; 4) providing input to corporate management regarding need for additional resources; 5) managing fabrication efforts for specific projects; 6) recommending most appropriate fabrication methods for specified requirements and production quantities; 7) assessing “make” versus “buy” decisions; 8) estimating cost and schedule for fabrication activities; and 9) optimizing fabrication schedules while considering technical risk and overall timeline.

Professional Requirements

Engineering degree (from ABET accredited institution) is required. Working knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication/machining techniques, mechanical assembly, and blue-print reading/inspection are required job skills. Prior production management and/or manufacturing engineering work experience (3+ years) in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.

Demonstrated team building and interpersonal relationships skills are required.

Expertise with MS Project or equivalent scheduling/tracking software is preferred. Previous direct experience with supply chain management and ERP software (e.g., Deltek Costpoint) is desired. Excellent organization skills, attention to detail and concern for accuracy, and written and oral communication skills are also required. Knowledge of Six Sigma and ISO process controls are a plus.

Mechanical & Materials Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for exceptional engineers with industrial experience and interest in materials science, metallurgy, and structural mechanics as they apply to design. The ideal candidate will have the passion, creativity, and skills to support a broad range of R&D in a multi-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate will provide the materials science expertise needed to ensure that innovative designs will meet high performance requirements in demanding environments. Projects begin with concept development and proceed through analysis, mechanical design, fabrication, and testing leading to development of prototypes, commercial products, and deployed systems.

As a Mechanical & Materials Design Engineer, the focus will be on material selection, modeling, characterization, and applying these efforts directly to the design of thermal-fluid and electro-mechanical systems. Typical design challenges include high-temperature creep of superalloy heat exchangers, cyclic plasticity and fatigue of a range of materials, heat treatment procedures, corrosion protection, brazing, welding metallurgy, technical ceramics and CMCs, and exotic materials. Familiarity with common metallurgical practices and laboratory techniques is ideal: metallographic and fractographic interpretation, microstructural development, phase kinetics, etc.

Professional Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring excellent academic credentials (BSME or MSME), the ability to design for a wide range of fabrication processes, capabilities in FEM and CAD, and excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and communication. Three years industrial experience required.

R&D Engineer

R&D Software Engineer

Job Responsibilities

As a R&D software engineer at Creare, you will contribute to multiple small cross-disciplinary teams working on a variety of R&D projects. A week in the life of a Creare R&D software engineer might involve: writing technology-enabling Python code for a custom weather-impacted mobility platform; architecting an open-source research mobile/browser application for diagnostic hearing research across human and animal species; implementation of control algorithms for unmanned aerial and ground vehicles; and providing technical leadership to project teams via informal discussions and code reviews. The consistent themes in this diverse workload are high caliber application of software engineering principles and best practices, and skilled technical leadership.

  • Apply software engineering principles and best practices.
  • Develop innovative, high-quality software using modern tools in a fast-paced environment.
  • Develop algorithms and design software architectures for data collection, data processing, control systems, and physics-based modeling.
  • Respond to project/client engineering needs using agile/test driven development practices.

Professional Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in an R&D environment.
  • Expertise with two or more of the following: Python, C/C++, Java, Typescript, Flutter, TensorFlow, OpenCV, DevSecOps (docker, CI/CD, Fortify/SonarQube, Linux server administration), development of firmware and software for embedded processors, cloud computing, high-performance computing (HPC), computationally-efficient algorithm development.
  • Ability to understand and implement signal and image processing algorithms.
  • Proven ability and desire to work on multiple, deadline-driven projects concurrently.
  • Effective project management and communication skills.

MS/PhD degree in Engineering, CS, Math, Physics, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience required.
