Creare to Refine Its Turbo-Brayton Cryocooler Design to Support Turboelectric Aircraft
Turboelectric aircraft with gas turbines driving electric generators connected to electric propulsion motors have the potential to transform future aircraft designs by decoupling power generation from propulsion. The power density requirements can only be achieved with superconductors, which in turn require lightweight, high-capacity cryocoolers. In this NASA SBIR Phase II project, Creare will fabricate and test a key cryocooler component to improve the Technology Readiness level of the system.
